1:30 pm: Departure from Lyon 2 University by luxury coach towards the city centre.
Private costumed guided tour "1930: The Peninsula and the Silk Workers" with a costumed guide (30 people) + museum access + access to the "Lyonnaise-style" printing workshop - approx. 3 hours
The Brochier Silk Museum in collaboration offers you a costumed guided tour to discover Lyon silks from the 1930s.
The city of Lyon is buzzing with activity. The world capital of silk for decades, orders are pouring in from all over the globe. Merchants and manufacturers are redoubling their efforts to conquer new markets and stay ahead of the competition from Italy, England, and the Netherlands.
Madeleine Jacquard, a close friend of Henriette and Joseph Brochier ("whose silk house is very well-known in the area!"), is eager to see you… "Is this your first time? …Really? Then follow me! Here, more than 400 silk houses weave, have woven, dye, have dyed, paint, have painted…everyone lives off silk, it's wonderful, isn't it? You've arrived at the perfect time. I know the city like the back of my hand, and I have a lot to tell you about the grand and the everyday history of silk! Let's go!"
From the Brochier Silk Museum to the Grand Hôtel-Dieu and the printing workshop, Madeleine will lead you on a fascinating exploration through the streets of Lyon. For a discovery of the traboules (covered passageways) and iconic locations of the peninsula, where the city's history and the stories of silk weavers are intertwined, you're in good hands!
This package includes access to the Brochier Soieries museum + guided tour + free access to the Brochier Soieries workshops.
